Standard of Excellence

At TribalArt.com, we understand that for the serious collector and the public institution, authenticity is not a luxury; it is a requirement. Every object featured in our Premier Selection undergoes a multi-stage review by our independent Vetting Committee, composed of seasoned anthropologists, conservators, and legal experts with decades of combined experience in African, Asian, Oceanic, American and Pre-Columbian art. This rigorous process not only safeguards your investment but also preserves cultural heritage by actively discouraging illicit trade and ensuring ethical sourcing.

Why Our Vetting Process Matters

In an industry where forgeries and questionable provenances can undermine trust, our four-pillar approach provides unparalleled assurance. By combining expert analysis, scientific methods, and ethical scrutiny, we help collectors and institutions acquire pieces with confidence. This transparency builds long-term value and aligns with global standards for cultural property.

The Four-Pillar Vetting Process

Our committee employs a structured methodology to evaluate each artifact. Below, we outline the pillars, including real-world insights to illustrate their application.

1. Stylistic Attribution
Analysis by regional specialists to ensure the object aligns with known artistic corpora of the specific ethnic group or period. This involves comparing stylistic elements like motifs, proportions, and techniques against established references from museums and scholarly publications.
2. Scientific Verification
Coordination of Thermoluminescence (TL) testing for ceramics or Carbon-14 dating for organic materials via accredited laboratories. We partner with institutions to obtain objective age estimates, ruling out modern reproductions.
3. Provenance Integrity
A rigorous audit of the object’s chain of ownership, ensuring compliance with the 1970 UNESCO Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property. Post-1970 acquisitions are also verified.
4. Physical Condition
A comprehensive macro-photographic study to detect modern repairs, "enhanced" patinas, or composite parts. Using high-resolution imaging and UV light examinations, Our partners identify alterations that could affect authenticity or value.
